حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ مُكْرَمٍ، قَالَ: نَا نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَ: نَا عَبْدُ الْمُؤْمِنِ بْنُ عَبَّادٍ، قَالَ: ثَنَا أَيُّوبُ السَّخْتِيَانِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِي مَاجِدَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، قَالَ:
مَرَّتْ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ جِنَازَةٌ، تُمْخَضُ مَخْضَ الزِّقِّ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: عَلَيْكُمْ بِالْقَصْدِ فِي الْمَشْيِ لِجَنَائِزِكُمْ دُونَ الْهَرْوَلَةِ، فَإِنْ كَانَ خَيْرًا عَجَّلْتُمُوهُ إِلَيْهِ، وَإِنْ كَانَ شَرًّا فَلَا يُبَعَّدُ اللهُ إِلَّا أَهْلَ النَّارِ، وَالْجِنَازَةُ مُتَّبَعَةٌ، وَلَيْسَتْ بِتَابِعَةٍ، لَيْسَ مَعَهَا مَنْ تَقَدَّمَهَا
Translation

✧ A funeral passed by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, being shaken violently like the shaking of a waterskin. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'You should walk at a moderate pace for your funerals, without hurrying. If the deceased was good, you are hastening him to it; and if he was evil, then God only removes the people of the Fire far away. The funeral is followed, and it does not follow; there is none with it who goes ahead of it.'
