✧ Al-Hajjaj wanted to appoint him as judge of Basra, so Anas said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: Whoever seeks judgeship and seeks help for it will be left to himself, and whoever does not seek it and does not seek help for it, Allah, Mighty and Majestic, will send down an angel to guide him aright.

machine translationIt is narrated by ʿAbd al-Aʿlā b. ʿĀmir al-Taghlibī, and there is disagreement concerning him. Abū ʿAwānah narrated it from ʿAbd al-Aʿlā, from Bilāl b. Mirdās, from Khaythamah, from Anas. Isrāʾīl contradicted him and narrated it from ʿAbd al-Aʿlā, from Bilāl b. Abī Mūsā, from Anas, and did not mention Khaythamah. It seems that the correct view is that of Abū ʿAwānah.
