حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ التَّمَّارُ، قَالَ: نَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ الْعَيْشِيُّ، قَالَ: نَا سَلْمُ بْنُ قُتَيْبَةَ، قَالَ: نَا يُونُسُ بْنُ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ زَيْدَ بْنَ أَرْقَمَ، يَقُولُ:

رَمِدَتْ عَيْنَايَ، فَعَادَنِي النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فِي الرَّمَدِ، فَقَالَ: يَا زَيْدُ، لَوْ أَنَّ عَيْنَيْكَ لِمَا بِهِمَا، كَيْفَ كُنْتَ تَصْنَعُ ؟ قَالَ: كُنْتُ أَصْبِرُ وَأَحْتَسِبُ، قَالَ: يَا زَيْدُ لَوْ أَنَّ عَيْنَيْكَ لِمَا بِهِمَا، فَصَبَرْتَ وَاحْتَسَبْتَ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَكَ ثَوَابٌ إِلَّا الْجَنَّةَ.

✧ My eyes became inflamed, and the Prophet ﷺ visited me during the inflammation. He said, 'O Zayd, if your eyes were afflicted with what they are, what would you do?' I said, 'I would be patient and seek reward.' He said, 'O Zayd, if your eyes were afflicted with what they are, and you were patient and sought reward, your reward would be nothing less than Paradise.'
