✧ The Anṣār said among themselves: What if we collect some wealth for the Messenger of God ﷺ, so that he can stretch out his hand and no one stands between him and it? They said: O Messenger of God, we wanted to collect some of our wealth for you. Then God, Mighty and Majestic, revealed: “Say: I do not ask you for any reward for it except love for near relatives.” They went out disagreeing with one another and said: Did you not see what the Messenger of God ﷺ said? Some of them said: He only said this so that we fight on behalf of his family and support them. Then God, Mighty and Majestic, revealed: “Or do they say: He has fabricated a lie against God?” up to His saying: “And it is He who accepts repentance from His servants,” thereby offering them repentance, up to His saying: “And He answers those who believe and do righteous deeds and gives them more of His bounty.” It is they who said this, that they should repent to God and seek His forgiveness.
