✧ I entered upon Ali b. Abi Talib and said, 'O Commander of the Faithful, when we leave you we hear hadiths narrated from you that we do not hear from you directly. Did the Messenger of God ﷺ entrust you with anything besides the Book of God?' He said, 'No, except what is in this sheet.' Then he called his servant girl and she brought the sheet, and in it was written: 'Ibrahim ﷺ made Makkah sacred, and I have made Madinah sacred. Its thorn trees shall not be cut, and its game shall not be startled. Whoever commits an offense in it or shelters an offender, upon him is the curse of God, the angels, and all people. The believers are one hand against those besides them; the lowest of them may give protection on their behalf. A believer is not to be killed for a disbeliever, nor a covenant holder during his covenant.'
