حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْجَارُودِيُّ قَالَ: نَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي قَالَ: نَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ طَهْمَانَ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ السُّدِّيِّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى، عَنْ كَعْبِ بْنِ عُجْرَةَ قَالَ:

قُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، هَذَا السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ، قَدْ عَلِمْنَا كَيْفَ نُسَلِّمُ عَلَيْكَ، فَكَيْفَ الصَّلَاةُ عَلَيْكَ ؟ قَالَ: قُولُوا: اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ، اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ

✧ We said: O Messenger of Allah, this greeting upon you, we have learned how to greet you, but how is the prayer upon you? He said: Say: O Allah, bestow blessing upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad as You bestowed blessing upon Ibrahim; You are Praiseworthy, Glorious. O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad as You blessed Ibrahim; You are Praiseworthy, Glorious.
