✧ It has reached me that a stone is thrown from the edge of Hell and does not reach its bottom for forty years. Indeed, you marveled—yet by Allah, it will surely be filled. And it has reached me that between two of the gates of Paradise is a distance of forty years, and by Allah, a day will come to it when it is crowded and thronged. I have seen myself with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as the seventh of seven, and our mouths were sore from eating leaves. And I have seen myself and Saʿd: we split a burdah into two halves, and I wore one half and Saʿd wore the other half. Today there is none among us but is a governor over one of these garrison towns. And it has reached me that there was never a prophethood except that it was followed by kingship. I seek refuge with Allah from being great in my own eyes but contemptible in the eyes of people. You will test the rulers after me.
