✧ Aisha wanted to buy Barira and set her free, but her masters said, "No, unless you make the wala' (patronage) ours." She mentioned that to the Messenger of God ﷺ, and he said, "Buy her, for the wala' belongs to the one who frees." So she bought her and set her free. Then the Messenger of God ﷺ stood up and said, "What is the matter with people who stipulate conditions that are not in the Book of God? Indeed, whoever stipulates a condition that is not in the Book of God, it is invalid." He said: She was married to a slave of Banu al-Mughirah called Mughith, and the Messenger of God ﷺ gave her the choice. He said: And Ibn Abbas narrated that Abu Bakr narrated that the Messenger of God ﷺ imposed upon her the waiting period of a free woman.
