حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الرَّازِيُّ قَالَ: نَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ الْأَعْيَنُ قَالَ: نَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْعَلَاءِ السَّهْمِيُّ قَالَ: نَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ الطَّائِفِيُّ قَالَ: نَا عَمْرُو بْنُ دِينَارٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ:

أَرَادَهُ عُثْمَانُ عَلَى الْقَضَاءِ فَأَبَى، وَقَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: الْقُضَاةُ ثَلَاثَةٌ: وَاحِدٌ نَاجٍ، وَاثْنَانِ فِي النَّارِ: مَنْ قَضَى بِالْجَوْرِ أَوْ بِالْهَوَى هَلَكَ، وَمَنْ قَضَى بِالْحَقِّ نَجَا

✧ ʿUthmān wanted him to take up the judgeship, but he refused and said: I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: “Judges are of three types: one is saved, and two are in the Fire. The one who judges unjustly or according to whim is destroyed, and the one who judges by the truth is saved.”
