✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent al-Walid b. 'Uqbah to Banu Wali'ah, and there had been enmity between them in pre-Islamic times. When he reached Banu Wali'ah, they went out to meet him to see what he intended, but he feared the people and returned to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, saying: "Banu Wali'ah wanted to kill me and withheld the zakat." When Banu Wali'ah learned what al-Walid had said to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, they came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: "O Messenger of Allah, al-Walid lied. But there was enmity between us and him, and we feared he would punish us for what had been between us." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Banu Wali'ah must stop, or I will send to them a man who is like my own self, to kill their fighters and take their offspring captive—and he is this one." Then he struck his hand on the shoulder of 'Ali b. Abi Talib. He said: And Allah revealed concerning al-Walid: "O you who believe, if a wicked person comes to you with news..." the verse.
