حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ قَالَ: نَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ الْفَضْلُ بْنُ دُكَيْنٍ قَالَ: نَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ بْنُ أَيْمَنَ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي قَالَ:
دَخَلْتُ عَلَى عَائِشَةَ أُمِّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، وَعِنْدَهَا جَارِيَةٌ لَهَا عَلَيْهَا دِرْعُ قُطْنٍ، ثَمَنُهُ خَمْسَةُ دَرَاهِمَ، فَقَالَتِ: " ارْفَعْ رَأْسَكَ إِلَى جَارِيَتِي، انْظُرْ إِلَيْهَا فَإِنَّهَا تَزْهُو عَلَى أَنْ تَلْبَسَهُ فِي الْبَيْتِ، وَقَدْ كَانَ لِي مِنْهُنَّ دِرْعٌ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَمَا كَانَتِ امْرَأَةٌ تُقَيَّنُ بِالْمَدِينَةِ إِلَّا أَرْسَلَتْ إِلَيَّ تَسْتَعِيرُهُ
Translation

✧ I entered upon ʿĀʾishah, the Mother of the Believers, and she had a slave girl of hers wearing a cotton shift worth five dirhams. She said, “Raise your head to my slave girl and look at her, for she is too proud to wear it in the house. I had a shift from among them during the time of the Messenger of God ﷺ, and no woman in Madinah would be adorned except that she sent to me to borrow it.”
