حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ قَالَ: نَا عَارِمٌ أَبُو النُّعْمَانِ قَالَ: نَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ الْيَشْكُرِيُّ قَالَ: حَدَّثَتْنِي أُمُّ كُلْثُومٍ بِنْتُ ثُمَامَةَ الْحَبَطِيِّ، أَنَّ أَخَاهَا الْمُخَارِقَ بْنَ ثُمَامَةَ الْحَبَطِيَّ، قَالَ لَهَا:

ادْخُلِي عَلَى أُمِّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ عَائِشَةَ، فَأَقْرِئِيهَا السَّلَامَ مِنِّي، فَدَخَلْتُ عَلَيْهَا، فَقُلْتُ: إِنَّ بَعْضَ بَنِيكِ يُقْرِئُكِ السَّلَامَ، قَالَتْ: وَعَلَيْهِ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ، قُلْتُ: وَيَسْأَلُكِ أَنْ تُحَدِّثِيهِ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَفَّانَ، فَإِنَّ النَّاسَ قَدْ أَكْثَرُوا فِيهِ عِنْدَنَا حِينَ قُتِلَ، قَالَتْ: أَمَّا أَنَا فَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ عَفَّانَ فِي هَذَا الْبَيْتِ، وَنَبِيُّ اللهِ ﷺ، وَجِبْرِيلُ يُوحِي - جَاءَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي لَيْلَةٍ قَائِظَةٍ وَكَانَ إِذَا نَزَلَ عَلَيْهِ الْوَحْيُ نَزَلَتْ عَلَيْهِ ثَقْلَةٌ، يَقُولُ اللهُ جَلَّ ذِكْرُهُ: إِنَّا سَنُلْقِي عَلَيْكَ قَوْلا ثَقِيلا وَنَبِيُّ اللهِ ﷺ يَضْرِبُ كَتِفَ عُثْمَانَ، وَيَقُولُ: اكْتُبْ، عُثْمَانُ، فَمَا كَانَ اللهُ يُنْزِلُ تِلْكَ الْمَنْزِلَةَ مِنْ نَبِيِّهِ إِلَّا رَجُلًا كَرِيمًا، فَمَنْ سَبَّ عُثْمَانَ فَعَلَيْهِ لَعْنَةُ اللهِ

✧ Enter upon the Mother of the Believers, ʿĀʾishah, and convey my greetings of peace to her. So I entered upon her and said, “One of your sons conveys greetings of peace to you.” She said, “And upon him be peace and the mercy of God.” I said, “He asks you to narrate to him about ʿUthmān b. ʿAffān, for people have said much about him among us when he was killed.” She said, “As for me, I bear witness that ʿUthmān b. ʿAffān was in this house, while the Prophet of God ﷺ and Jibrīl were receiving revelation—he came to the Prophet ﷺ on a very hot night, and whenever revelation descended upon him, a heaviness would descend upon him. God, majestic is His mention, says: “Indeed, We will cast upon you a weighty word” [Q 73:5]. The Prophet of God ﷺ was patting ʿUthmān’s shoulder and saying, ‘Write, ʿUthmān.’ God would not have placed anyone in that station with His Prophet except a noble man. So whoever reviles ʿUthmān, upon him is the curse of God.”
