✧ When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out to Uhud, he placed his women in a fortress called Fariʿ and put Hassan b. Thabit with them. Hassan would look out at the Prophet ﷺ, and when the fighting intensified against the polytheists, he would intensify with him while in the fort, and when he returned, he would return behind him. Some Jews came, and one of them climbed the fort until he looked down on us. I said to Hassan, 'Get up and kill him.' He said, 'That is not in me. If that were in me, I would have been with the Prophet ﷺ.' Safiyyah said, 'I struck his head until I cut it off. When I cut it off, I said, "O Hassan, get up and throw his head at them, for they are below the fort." He said, "By Allah, that is not in me." She said, 'I took his head and threw it at them. They said, "By Allah, we know that Muhammad would not leave his family without anyone with them." And they dispersed.' She said, 'Saʿd b. Muʿadh passed by us with a yellowness on him as if he had just camped before that, reciting rajz and saying: "Slowly, a little; the battle will soon catch up. Carry on! No harm in death when the appointed time has come."'
