حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرٌ، قَالَ: نَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ مُسَرَّحٍ الْحَرَّانِيُّ، قَالَ: نَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ عَطَاءٍ، عَنْ مَسْلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْجُهَنِيِّ، عَنْ عَمِّهِ أَبِي مَشْجَعَةَ بْنِ رِبْعِيٍّ، عَنْ أَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ قَالَ:

ذُكِرَ زِيَادَةُ الْعُمُرِ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: لَا تُؤَخَّرُ نَفْسٌ إِذَا جَاءَ أَجَلُهَا، وَإِنَّمَا زِيَادَةُ الْعُمُرِ: الذُّرِّيَّةُ الصَّالِحَةُ يَرْزُقُهَا اللهُ الْعَبْدَ، فَتَدْعُو لَهُ مِنْ بَعْدِهِ، فَيَلْحَقُهُ دُعَاؤُهُمْ فِي قَبْرِهِ، فَذَلِكَ زِيَادَةُ الْعُمُرِ

✧ An increase in lifespan was mentioned in the presence of the Messenger of God ﷺ, so the Messenger of God ﷺ said: “No soul is delayed when its term comes, and indeed the increase in lifespan is the righteous offspring whom God grants to the servant, who then supplicate for him after his death, and their supplication reaches him in his grave. That is the increase in lifespan.”
