وَبِهِ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عُمَرَ
أَنَّهُ حَمَلَ عَلَى فَرَسٍ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ، فَوَجَدَهُ عِنْدَ صَاحِبِهِ وَقَدْ أَضَاعَهُ، وَكَانَ قَلِيلَ الْمَالِ، فَأَرَادَ أَنْ يَشْتَرِيَهُ، فَأَتَى رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَذَكَرَ ذَلِكَ لَهُ، فَقَالَ: لَا تَشْتَرِهِ، وَإِنْ أُعْطِيتَهُ بِدِرْهَمٍ، فَإِنَّ مَثَلَ الْعَائِدِ فِي هِبَتِهِ كَمَثَلِ الْكَلْبِ يَعُودُ فِي قَيْئِهِ
Translation

✧ He donated a horse in the path of Allah, then found it with its owner who had neglected it, and he had little wealth, so he wanted to buy it back. He came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and mentioned that to him. He said: Do not buy it, even if he gives it to you for a dirham, for the one who takes back his gift is like a dog that returns to its vomit.
