✧ Every good deed that the son of Adam does, I will reward him for it from ten good deeds up to seven hundred times over, except fasting. It is for Me, and I will reward for it. He leaves his food for My sake, and he leaves his desire for My sake. It is for Me, and I will reward for it. Fasting is a shield. Whoever is fasting should not behave obscenely or act foolishly. If someone insults him or harms him, let him say: 'I am fasting, I am fasting.'

machine translationThere was disagreement about it regarding Mālik b. Anas. ʿAbdullāh b. Buzayʿ narrated it from Rawḥ b. al-Qāsim, from Mālik b. Anas, from al-Zuhrī, from al-Aʿraj, from Abū Hurayrah, but he erred in saying "al-Zuhrī". The correct version is from Mālik, from Abū al-Zinād, from al-Aʿraj, from Abū Hurayrah. Likewise al-Qaʿnabī and the transmitters of the Muwaṭṭaʾ narrated it from Mālik. And ʿAbdullāh b. Buzayʿ is lenient in hadith (layyin al-ḥadīth), not abandoned (matrūk).
