✧ O Ka'b b. 'Ujrah! If you have rulers upon whom you enter and you confirm their lies and assist them in their oppression, then you are not of me and I am not of you, and you will not approach me at the Cistern. And whoever enters upon them and does not confirm their lies and does not assist them in their oppression, then he is of me and I am of him. O Ka'b b. 'Ujrah! Verily, flesh and blood that grow from ill-gotten gain (suht) will not enter Paradise; every flesh and blood that grow from suht, the Fire is more deserving of it. O Ka'b b. 'Ujrah! People are of two kinds: one who sets out in the morning and ransoms his own soul, thus freeing it, and one who sets out and destroys it. O Ka'b! Prayer is a proof, fasting is a shield, and charity extinguishes sin just as ice (jalid) melts away on a smooth rock (safa).
