✧ An imam known as Abu Rimthah led us in the afternoon prayer in our prayer place, and with us was a man who had witnessed the first takbir. When Abu Rimthah finished, the man stood up to make up what he had missed. Abu Rimthah looked at him and said: “I prayed this prayer, or one like it, with the Prophet ﷺ. Abu Bakr and ‘Umar were placed forward in prayer. There was a man who had witnessed the first takbir of the prayer. The Prophet ﷺ prayed, then he gave the greeting to the right and left, until I saw the whiteness of his cheeks, then he turned away as Abu Rimthah turned away—meaning himself—and faced the people. The man who had caught the first takbir with him stood up to make up what he had missed. ‘Umar went to him, seized him by the shoulder, and pushed him, then said: 'Sit down, for the People of the Book were ruined only because there was no separation between their prayers.' The Prophet ﷺ raised his eyes to him and said: 'May God cause you to hit the mark, O Ibn al-Khattab.'”
