✧ The people who had apostatized from Asad and Ghaṭafān came to Abū Bakr after the Messenger of God ﷺ, asking him for peace. He said, “On condition that we take from you the ring and the weapon, and you are left to follow the tails of cattle until God, Mighty and Majestic, shows the successor of His Prophet ﷺ and the believers a course of action by which they may excuse you. And you testify that our slain are in Paradise and your slain are in Hell. And you pay blood money for our slain, and we do not pay blood money for your slain.” ʿUmar said, “O successor of the Messenger of God, the matter is as you said, except that our slain were killed in the path of God and have no blood money.”
