✧ I went early to Ṣafwān b. ʿAssāl al-Murādī, and he said: What brought you early, O Zirr? I said: I am seeking knowledge. He said: Go early as a scholar or a learner, and do not go beyond that, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: There is no Muslim servant who seeks knowledge except that the angels lower their wings for him, out of pleasure with what he does. He said: Then I asked him about wiping over the leather socks, and I said: I have some unease about that. He said: When we traveled with the Prophet ﷺ, we were commanded not to remove our leather socks for three nights and their days, except for major ritual impurity, but not for defecation, urination, or sleep. And for the resident it is a day and a night.
