✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned from a military expedition he had undertaken. The Prophet's companions ﷺ were struck by hunger and their provisions ran out. They came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ complaining to him about what had befallen them and asking his permission to slaughter some of their riding camels. He permitted them, so they went out and passed by 'Umar. He said: "Where have you come from?" They told him that they had asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for permission to slaughter some of their camels. He said: "Did he permit you?" They said: "Yes." He said: "I adjure you by Allah to return with me to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." So they returned with him. 'Umar went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: "O Messenger of Allah, will you permit them to slaughter their riding camels? Then what will they ride?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "What should I do? I do not have anything to give them." 'Umar said: "Rather, O Messenger of Allah, command those who have surplus provisions to bring them, and you gather it all on something, then supplicate over it, then distribute it among them." So he did that. He called them with their surplus provisions: some came with a little, and some with a lot. He placed it on something, then supplicated over it as Allah willed him to supplicate, then distributed it among them. There remained not one of the people except that he filled whatever container he had, and there was still surplus left over. At that point he said: "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger. Whoever brings this testimony on the Day of Resurrection without doubt, Allah will admit him to Paradise."
