حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ، قَالَ: نَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ الْجُبَيْرِيُّ قَالَ: نَا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ أَبُو بِشْرٍ الطَّوِيلُ عَنْ يُونُسَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنِ الْمُتَشَمِّسِ بْنِ مُعَاوِيَةَ عَمِّ الْأَحْنَفِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا مُوسَى الْأَشْعَرِيَّ يَقُولُ:
سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ ذَكَرَ الصَّدَقَةَ، فَقَالَ: مِنَ الصَّدَقَةِ عِتْقُ الرَّقَبَةِ وَفَكُّهَا، فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ: أَلَيْسَتَا وَاحِدَةً ؟ فَقَالَ: " لَا، عِتْقُهَا: أَنْ تُعْتِقَهَا، وَفَكُّهَا: أَنْ تُعِينَ فِيهَا " قَالَ: فَإِنْ لَمْ أَفْعَلْ ؟ قَالَ: " فَمِنْحَةٌ وَكُوفٌ، أَوْ عَطْفٌ عَلَى ذِي رَحِمٍ

✧ I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ mention charity, and he said: "Part of charity is manumitting a slave and freeing him." A man said: "Are they not one and the same?" He said: "No, manumitting him is that you set him free, and freeing him is that you help in his ransom." He said: "And if I do not do that?" He said: "Then a prolific milch animal given as a loan, or kindness to a relative."
