حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ، قَالَ: نَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ غَالِبٍ الرَّافِقِيُّ قَالَ: نَا الْأَحْوَصُ بْنُ جَوَّابٍ قَالَ: نَا عَمَّارُ بْنُ رُزَيْقٍ عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ بْنِ مَرْثَدٍ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ. عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ:
كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِذَا بَعَثَ جَيْشًا أَوْ سَرِيَّةً دَعَا صَاحِبَهُمْ، فَأَمَرَهُ بِتَقْوَى اللهِ وَبِمَنْ مَعَهُ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ خَيْرًا، ثُمَّ، قَالَ: اغْزُوا بِاسْمِ اللهِ، وَفِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ، قَاتِلُوا مَنْ كَفَرَ بِاللهِ، لَا تَغُلُّوا، وَلَا تَغْدِرُوا، وَلَا تُمَثِّلُوا، وَلَا تَقْتُلُوا وَلِيدًا وَلَا شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا، وَإِذَا أَتَيْتُمْ أَهْلَ حِصْنٍ أَوْ قَرْيَةٍ، فَلَا تُعْطُوهُمْ ذِمَّةَ اللهِ وَذِمَّةَ رَسُولِهِ، وَلَكِنْ أَعْطُوهُمْ ذِمَمَكُمْ وَذِمَمَ آبَائِكُمْ، فَإِنَّكُمْ إِنْ تُخْفِرُوا ذِمَّتَكُمْ وَذِمَّةَ آبَائِكُمْ خَيْرٌ لَكُمْ مِنْ أَنْ تُخْفِرُوا ذِمَّةَ اللهِ وَذِمَّةَ رَسُولِهِ، وَإِذَا حَاصَرْتُمْ أَهْلَ حِصْنٍ أَوْ قَرْيَةٍ فَلَا تُنْزِلُوهُمْ عَلَى حُكْمِ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَحُكْمِ رَسُولِهِ، فَإِنَّكُمْ لَا تَدْرُونَ أَتُصِيبُونَ فِيهِمْ حُكْمَ اللهِ أَمْ لَا، وَلَكِنْ أَنْزِلُوهُمْ عَلَى حُكْمِكُمْ

✧ When the Prophet ﷺ sent out an army or a raiding party, he would summon its commander and command him to fear Allah and to treat those Muslims with him well. Then he said: “Raid in the name of Allah and in the path of Allah. Fight those who disbelieve in Allah. Do not embezzle, do not act treacherously, do not mutilate, and do not kill a child or an old man. If you come to the people of a fortress or a village, do not grant them the protection of Allah and the protection of His Messenger; rather grant them your protection and the protection of your fathers, for if you violate your protection and the protection of your fathers, that is better for you than violating the protection of Allah and the protection of His Messenger. And if you besiege the people of a fortress or a village, do not make them descend upon the judgment of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, and the judgment of His Messenger, for you do not know whether you will attain the judgment of Allah regarding them or not; but make them descend upon your judgment.”
