✧ The Prophet ﷺ went on a military expedition and traveled that day until nightfall. When night came, he dismounted and the people encamped around him. He, Abu Talha the husband of Umm Anas, and so-and-so and so-and-so—four of them—slept, with the Prophet ﷺ resting his head on the foreleg of his mount. Then he slept and the four slept beside him. When a portion of the night had passed, they raised their heads and did not find the Prophet ﷺ at his mount, so they went searching for him until they met him coming toward them. They said: 'May Allah make us your ransom! Where were you? We were alarmed for you when we did not see you.' The Prophet of Allah ﷺ said: 'I was sleeping where you saw me, and I heard in my sleep a rumbling like the rumbling of a mill, or a whirring like the whirring of a mill. I was startled in my sleep, so I jumped up and went on my way. Then Gabriel ﷺ met me and said: "O Muhammad, Allah, Mighty and Majestic, sent me to you just now to give you a choice. Choose either that half of your community enters Paradise, or intercession on the Day of Resurrection." So I chose intercession for my community.' The four men said: 'O Prophet of Allah, make us among those for whom you intercede.' He said: 'It is guaranteed for you.' Then the Prophet ﷺ and the four came forward until ten men met him. They said: 'Where is our Prophet, the Prophet of mercy?' He said: 'He told them what he had told the group.' They said: 'May Allah make us your ransom! Make us among those for whom you intercede on the Day of Resurrection.' He said: 'It is guaranteed for you.' Then they all came to the great mass of people and called out among the people: 'This is our Prophet, the Prophet of mercy.' He told them what he had told the group, and they all cried out: 'May Allah make us your ransom! Make us among those for whom you intercede on the Day of Resurrection.' He called out three times: 'I call Allah to witness, and I call those who hear to witness, that my intercession is for whoever dies not associating anything with Allah, Mighty and Majestic.'
