حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ، قَالَ: نَا حَفْصُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الرَّبَالِيُّ، قَالَ: نَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ أَبُو بَحْرٍ الْبَكْرَاوِيُّ قَالَ: نَا عَوْفٌ، قَالَ: نَا الْحَسَنُ، قَالَ: عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ سَمُرَةَ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ:
لَا تَسْأَلِ الْإِمَارَةَ، فَإِنَّكَ إِنْ سَأَلْتَهَا فَأُوتِيتَهَا وُكِلْتَ إِلَى نَفْسِكَ، وَإِنْ أُعْطِيتَهَا عَنْ غَيْرِ مَسْأَلَةٍ أُعِنْتَ عَلَيْهَا، وَإِذَا حَلَفْتَ عَلَى يَمِينٍ، فَرَأَيْتَ غَيْرَهَا خَيْرًا مِنْهَا فَأْتِ الَّذِي هُوَ خَيْرٌ وَكَفِّرْ عَنْ يَمِينِكَ

✧ Do not ask for authority, for if you ask for it and are given it, you will be left to yourself; but if you are given it without asking, you will be helped in it. And if you swear an oath and then see something better than it, do what is better and expiate your oath.
