حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ قَالَ: نَا ثَوْبَانُ قَالَ: نَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ الْبَصْرِيُّ قَالَ: نَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَابِسٍ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ. عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ:

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يُعَلِّمُنَا إِذَا اسْتَفْتَحْنَا الصَّلَاةَ أَنْ نَقُولَ: سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ، وَتَبَارَكَ اسْمُكَ، وَتَعَالَى جَدُّكَ، وَلَا إِلَهَ غَيْرُكَ. وَكَانَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ يَفْعَلُ ذَلِكَ. وَكَانَ عُمَرُ يُعَلِّمُنَا وَيَقُولُ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُهُ

Translation

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to teach us, when we began the prayer, to say: “Glory be to You, O Allah, and praise be to You; blessed is Your name; exalted is Your majesty; and there is no god besides You.” And Umar b. al-Khattab used to do that. And Umar taught us, saying: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say it.”
