"O Zubayr, I am the Messenger of Allah to you in particular and to the people in general. Do you know what your Lord said? Your Lord said, when He settled upon His Throne and looked upon His creation: My servants, you are My creation and I am your Lord. Your provisions are in My hand, so do not weary yourselves over what I have taken upon Myself for you. Seek your provisions from Me, and raise your needs to Me. Exert yourselves toward Me and I will pour your provisions upon you. Do you know what your Lord said? Allah the Exalted said: My servant, spend and I will spend on you; be generous and I will be generous to you; do not constrict and I will constrict you; do not persist [in withholding] and I will persist against you; do not hoard and I will hoard against you. The door of provision is open from above the seven heavens, connected to the Throne, [not closed] to you night or day. Allah the Exalted sends down provision through it upon every person according to his intention, his giving, his charity and his spending. Whoever gives much, it is increased for him; whoever gives little, it is lessened for him; and whoever withholds, it is withheld from him. O Zubayr, eat and feed others, and do not tie up [your money] lest it be tied up against you, and do not count it lest it be counted against you, and do not be stingy lest you be treated stingily, and do not make things hard lest they be made hard for you. O Zubayr, Allah the Exalted loves spending and hates stinginess. Generosity comes from certainty and miserliness from doubt. No one who has certainty will enter the Fire, and no one who doubts will enter Paradise. O Zubayr, Allah loves generosity even if it is by half a date, and courage even if it is by killing a scorpion or a snake. O Zubayr, Allah loves patience at the shaking of the earthquake, penetrating certainty when desires come, perfect reason when doubts descend, and sincere scrupulousness in the face of the forbidden and the impure. O Zubayr, honor the brothers, revere the righteous, respect the best of people, maintain ties with the neighbor, and do not associate with the wicked, and enter Paradise without reckoning or punishment. This is Allah the Exalted's counsel to me and my counsel to you, O Zubayr b. al-ʿAwwām."
