"From Ṭalḥah, who said: On the day of Uḥud I recited this verse in rajaz meter: We are the protectors of Ghālib and Mālik... we defend our blessed Messenger, we strike the people away from him in the battles... with the blows of broad swords on the great camels in their kneeling places. And the Prophet ﷺ did not depart on the day of Uḥud until he said to Ḥassān: Say something about Ṭalḥah. So he said: And Ṭalḥah on the day of the mountain pass consoled Muḥammad... in an hour that grew narrow upon him and was hard. He shielded him with his two palms from the spears, and he surrendered... his fingers beneath the swords, so they were paralyzed. And he was the leader of the people, except Muḥammad... he kept the mill of Islam standing until it rose up firm. And Abū Bakr al-Ṣiddīq said: He protected the Prophet of guidance while the horsemen were following him... until, when they met, he defended the religion, steadfast against the thrusting, when their protectors turned back... and the people were divided between the rightly guided and the tried by trial. O Ṭalḥah b. ʿUbaydillāh, the Gardens have become obligatory for you... and you have been wedded to the wide-eyed maidens. And ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb said: He protected the Prophet of guidance with the drawn sword... when all the people turned away and were routed. He said: So the Prophet ﷺ said: You have spoken truly, O ʿUmar."
