أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ, نَا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ, نَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ, نَا حَجَّاجٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ, أَنَا شُعْبَةُ, وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ فُورَكٍ رَحِمَهُ اللهُ, قَالَ: أَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ, نَا يُونُسُ بْنُ حَبِيبٍ, نَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ, نَا شُعْبَةُ, عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ, عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبَانَ, عَنْ أَبِيهِ, عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ قَالَ:
سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: " مَنْ كَانَتِ الدُّنْيَا هِمَّتَهُ فَرَّقَ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ أَمْرَهُ وَجَعَلَ فَقْرَهُ بَيْنَ عَيْنَيْهِ, وَلَمْ يَأْتِهِ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا إِلَّا مَا كُتِبَ لَهُ, وَمَنْ كَانَتِ الْآخِرَةُ نِيَّتَهُ جَعَلَ اللهُ غِنَاهُ فِي قَلْبِهِ وَجَمَعَ لَهُ أَمْرَهُ وَأَتَتْهُ الدُّنْيَا وَهِيَ رَاغِمَةٌ " وَهَذَا لَا يُخَالِفُ الْأَوَّلَ, لِأَنَّهُ إِذَا أَحَبَّ الْآخِرَةَ لَمْ يُبَالِغْ فِي طَلَبِ الدُّنْيَا, وَهَذَا هُوَ إِضْرَارٌ بِهَا, ثُمَّ يَأْتِيهِ مِنْهَا مَا كُتِبَ لَهُ مِنْهَا بِمَشِيئَةِ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ

I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "Whoever makes this world his chief concern, Allah scatters his affairs for him and places his poverty between his eyes, and nothing of this world comes to him except what has been written for him. And whoever makes the Hereafter his intention, Allah places his richness in his heart, gathers his affairs for him, and the world comes to him while it is submissive."
