Chain of narrators

machine translationAbū al-Ḥusayn b. al-Faḍl al-Qaṭṭān informed us: ʿAbdullāh b. Jaʿfar b. Darastawayh informed us: Yaʿqūb b. Sufyān narrated to us: Abū Saʿīd al-Ashajj narrated to us: ʿAmr b. Qays b. Bashīr b. ʿAmr narrated to us, from his father, from his grandfather Bashīr b. ʿAmr, who was from the Jāhiliyyah.

Machine translation, not reviewed

He said: "Aṣram al-Aḥmaq." "This is the sound report, mawqūf. He said: And Yasīr b. ʿAmr was eleven years old in the time of the Prophet ﷺ; and it is said: the Prophet ﷺ died when he was ten years old, and he accepted Islam after him. So in the first chain there is an error in three respects, or in four: The first: the saying 'ʿUmar b. Qays', whereas it is only ʿAmr b. Qays. The second: the saying 'Bashīr', whereas it is only Yasīr. The third: in raising it to the Prophet (marfūʿ), whereas it is only mawqūf. The fourth: in counting Bashīr among the Companions; Bashīr was among those who reached his time, but he only accepted Islam after him."
