He said: ʿUmar (may God be pleased with him) said: "Men are of three kinds, and women are of three kinds. As for women: a chaste woman, a Muslim, gentle, loving and fertile, who helps her family against the vicissitudes of time and does not help time against her family - and you will seldom find her; and a woman who is a mere vessel, who does nothing more than bear children; and the third, whom God places around the neck of whomever He wills, and when He wills to remove her from him, He removes her. And men are of three kinds: a chaste man, easygoing and gentle, possessing sound opinion and counsel, such that when a matter befalls, his opinion is trusted and he brings matters to their proper conclusions; and a man who has no opinion, and when a matter befalls him he goes to one of opinion and counsel and abides by his opinion; and a bewildered man, who neither follows one who is rightly guided nor obeys one who guides."
