"A king among the kings went out travelling through his kingdom, concealing himself from the people, until he stayed with a man who had a cow. That cow came back to him in the evening, and her milk was the amount of the milk of thirty cows. The king told himself that he would take her. When the next morning came, he took the cow out to her pasture, then she came back in the evening and was milked, and her milk had decreased by half; it came to the amount of the milk of fifteen cows. So the king called the owner of the house and said: Tell me, where is this cow of yours from? Did she graze today in a pasture other than her pasture of yesterday? Or did she drink from a place other than her drinking place of yesterday? He said: No, she did not graze in a pasture other than her pasture of yesterday, and she did not drink from a place other than her drinking place of yesterday. He said: Then what is the matter with her milk, that it has decreased by half? He said: The king has decided to take her, so her milk has decreased. For when the king wrongs, or intends to wrong, the blessing departs. He said: And how do you know the king? He said: It is just as I told you. He said: So the king made a covenant with his Lord within himself that he would not take her, nor own her, and that she would never be in his possession. He said: Then the cow went out in the morning and grazed, then came back in the evening and was milked, and her milk had returned to the amount of thirty cows. He said: The king said to himself and took a lesson, and he said: When the king wrongs, or intends to wrong, the blessing departs. Without doubt, I will be just, or I will be upon something better, or words to that effect."
