Chain of narrators

machine translationAbū al-Qāsim ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. ʿUbaydillāh al-Kharaqī informed us of it, (he said) Aḥmad b. Salmān the jurist informed us, (he said) ʿAbdullāh b. Abī al-Dunyā narrated to us, (he said) ʿAlī b. al-Jaʿd narrated to us, (he said) Yāsīn al-Zayyāt narrated to us, from ʿUbaydullāh b. Zaḥr, I think from ʿAlī b. Yazīd, from al-Qāsim b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, from Abū Umāmah:

That ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb (may God be pleased with him) called for a shirt of his and put it on. When it reached his collarbone he said: "Praise be to God who has clothed me with what I cover my nakedness with, and adorn myself with in my life." Then he stretched out his hands and looked at everything that exceeded his body, and cut it off. Then he began to narrate, saying: I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: "Whoever puts on a garment - I think he said - a new one, and says, when it reaches his collarbone, the like of that, then goes to his old garment and clothes a poor person with it, he will remain in the neighbourhood of God, in the protection of God, and under the care of God, alive and dead, alive and dead, alive and dead, as long as any thread of the garment remains." Yāsīn said: I said to ʿUbaydullāh: From which of the two garments? He said: I do not know. The Shaykh said: "The chain of transmission of this hadith is not strong."
