أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ بْنُ بِشْرَانَ، أَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ الْجَوْزِيُّ، ثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي الدُّنْيَا، ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ سَرِيعٍ الْبَصْرِيُّ، ثَنَا الْفُضَيْلُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ النُّمَيْرِيُّ، ثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عُثْمَانَ خَطِيبًا فَقَالَ:
سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ: " اجْتَنِبُوا أُمَّ الْخَبَائِثِ فَإِنَّهُ كَانَ رَجُلٌ فِيمَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ يَتَعَبَّدُ وَيَعْتَزِلُ النِّسَاءَ، فَلَقِيَتٍهُ امْرَأَةٌ غَاوِيَةُ، فَأَرْسَلَتْ إِلَيْهِ خَادِمَهَا فَقَالَتْ: إِنَّا نَدْعُوكَ لِشَهَادَةٍ فَدَخَلَ فَطَفِقَتْ كُلَّمَا دَخَلَ عَلَيْهَا بَابًا أَغْلَقَتْهُ دُونَهُ حَتَّى أَفْضَى إِلَى امْرَأَةٍ وَضِيئَةٍ جَالِسَةٍ وَعِنْدَهَا غُلَامٌ وَبَاطِيَةٌ فِيهَا خَمْرٌ فَقَالَتْ: أَنَا لَمْ أَدْعُكَ لِشَهَادَةٍ وَلَكِنْ دَعْوَتُكَ لِتَقْتُلَ هَذَا الْغُلَامَ أَوْ تَقَعَ عَلَيَّ أَوْ تَشْرَبَ كَأْسًا مِنْ هَذَا الْخَمْرِ فَإِنْ أَبَيْتَ صِحْتُ وَفَضَحْتُكَ، فَلَمَّا رَأَى أَنَّهُ لَا بُدَّ مِنْ ذَلِكَ قَالَ: اسْقِينِي كَأْسًا مِنْ هَذَا الْخَمْرِ فَسَقَتْهُ كَأْسًا مِنَ الْخَمْرِ ثُمَّ قَالَ: زِيدِينِي فَلَمْ يَرِمْ حَتَّى وَقَعَ عَلَيْهَا وَقَتَلَ النَّفْسَ فَاجْتَنِبُوا الْخَمْرَ فَإِنَّهُ وَاللهِ لَا فَإِنَّهُ وَاللهِ لَا يَجْتَمِعُ الْإِيمَانُ وَإِدْمَانُ الْخَمْرِ فِي صَدْرِ رَجُلٍ أَبَدًا لَيُوشِكَنَّ أَحَدُهُمَا أَنْ يُخْرِجَ صَاحِبَهُ " رَفَعَهُ عُمَرُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ سُرَيْجٍ هَذَا. وَقَدْ

I heard the Prophet ﷺ say: "Avoid the mother of evils, for among those before you there was a man who devoted himself to worship and kept away from women. A misguided woman met him and sent her servant girl to him, saying: 'We are calling you to bear witness.' So he went in, and every time he passed through a door, she locked it behind him, until he reached a beautiful woman sitting, with a boy beside her and a large vessel containing wine. She said: 'I did not call you to bear witness, but I called you to kill this boy, or to lie with me, or to drink a cup of this wine. If you refuse, I will cry out and disgrace you.' When he saw that there was no escaping it, he said: 'Give me a cup of this wine to drink.' So she gave him a cup of wine, then he said: 'Give me more.' He did not stop until he lay with her and killed the soul. So avoid wine, for by God, faith and addiction to wine will never be together in a man's chest; one of them is bound to drive out the other." ʿUmar b. Saʿīd b. Surayj raised it to the Prophet.
