"Indeed, the ten verses which Allah, Blessed and Exalted, wrote for Moses on the tablets: Worship Me, and do not associate anything with Me; and do not swear falsely by My name, for I do not purify nor cleanse the one who swears falsely by My name; and give thanks to Me and to your parents, and I will extend your life and protect you from destruction; and do not steal, and do not commit adultery, lest I veil the light of My face from you and the doors of My heavens be closed to your supplication; and do not betray the wife of your neighbour; and love for people what you love for yourself; and do not testify to what your hearing has not retained and your heart has not understood, for I will make the people of testimonies stand over their testimonies on the Day of Resurrection, then I will question them about it; and do not slaughter for other than Me, for nothing of the offerings of the people of the earth ascends to Me except that over which My name was mentioned. As for the lie by which one harms another through falsehood against him, it is like insulting him with falsehood and attributing to him what disgraces him; among it is accusing him of adultery, for which Allah has legislated the prescribed punishment; or testifying falsely against him concerning property, or divorce, or manumission, or killing. That gathers together sins: among them lying, among them harming the one testified against, among them that he set himself up in the position of the trustworthy and the judge set him up in that position, and among them is audacity against Allah the Exalted, for the judge who carries out the rulings on behalf of Allah the Exalted hears testimony against him in a session in which he issues his rulings, and it was set up only for justice between people."
