أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ الْحِرفِيُّ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سَلْمَانَ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَبِي الدُّنْيَا، أخبرنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنُ كَثِيرٍ الْعَنْبَرِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا خُزَيْمَةُ أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ الْعَابِدُ،
قَالَ: " مَرَّ وَهْبُ بْنُ مُنَبِّهٍ بِمُبْتَلًي أَعْمَى مَجْذُومٍ مَقْعَدٍ عُرْيَانٍ بِهِ وَضَحٌ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ: الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ عَلَى نِعْمَتِهِ. فَقَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ مَعَ وَهْبٍ: أَيُّ شَيْءٍ بَقِيَ عَلَيْكَ مِنَ النِّعْمَةِ تَحْمَدُ اللهَ عَلَيْهَا؟ فَقَالَ الْمُبْتَلَى: ارْمِ بِبَصَرِكَ إِلَى أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ فَانْظُرْ إِلَى كَثْرَةِ أَهْلِهَا، أَوَلَا أَحْمَدُ اللهَ أَنَّهُ لَيْسَ فِيهَا أَحَدٌ يَعْرِفُهُ غَيْرِي "
