Chain of narrators

machine translationAbū al-Ḥasan Muḥammad b. al-Ḥusayn al-ʿAlawī informed us, Abū Bakr Muḥammad b. ʿAlī al-Najjār al-Ḥāfiẓ narrated to us, dictating it to us, Aḥmad b. Naṣr al-Labbād narrated to us, Saʿīd b. Dāwūd al-Zubayrī informed us, ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. Abī Ḥāzim and ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. Muḥammad al-Darāwardī narrated to us,

Machine translation, not reviewed

They both said: We were sitting with Jaʿfar b. Muḥammad b. ʿAlī b. al-Ḥusayn b. ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib, when Sufyān al-Thawrī asked permission to enter. He permitted him, so he entered, then sat. Jaʿfar said: "O Sufyān." He said: "At your service." He said: "You are a man whom the ruler seeks, and I am a man whom the ruler follows." Another said: "Beware of the ruler, so get up, not driven away." Sufyān said: "Narrate to me and I will get up." Jaʿfar said: My father informed me, from my grandfather, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever Allah has favoured with a blessing, let him praise Allah; and whoever finds his provision slow in coming, let him seek forgiveness from Allah; and whoever is distressed by a matter, let him say: There is no power and no strength except with Allah." Then Sufyān got up, and Jaʿfar called out to him and said: "O Sufyān." He said: "At your service." He said: "Take these three, and what three they are," and he pointed with his finger. "Al-Zubayrī was alone in narrating it from them in this way, and the preserved (maḥfūẓ) version is that this speech is from the words of Jaʿfar himself. It has also been narrated by another, weak route similar to the narration of al-Zubayrī."
