Chain of narrators

machine translationAbū Bakr b. Fūrak informed us: ʿAbdullāh b. Jaʿfar narrated to us: Yūnus b. Ḥabīb narrated to us: Abū Dāwūd narrated to us: Shuʿbah narrated to us: Abū Jamrah informed me, he said: I heard Hilāl b. Ḥuṣayn,

Machine translation, not reviewed

He said: I came to Medina and stayed with Abū Saʿīd in his house, and the gathering brought him and me together, so I heard him narrate. He said: Hunger afflicted me in the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ until I tied a stone over my belly. My wife said: "If only you would go to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and ask him. So-and-so came to him and asked him, and he gave him, and so-and-so came to him and asked him, and he gave him." I said: "I will not ask him until I find nothing." So I searched and found nothing, and I set out to him and found him giving a sermon, and I caught some of his words: "Whoever seeks chastity, Allah will make him chaste; and whoever seeks to be self-sufficient, Allah will make him self-sufficient; and whoever asks us, either we give to him or we console him with aid; and whoever is content without us is dearer to us than the one who asks us." So I returned and never asked anyone for anything after that. Then worldly wealth came, and there was no household among the Anṣār with more wealth than ours.
