From the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who said: "A man will call out in the Fire for a thousand years: 'O Most Compassionate, O Most Bestowing!' So Allah will say to Jibrīl: 'Go and bring me this servant of mine.'" He said: "Jibrīl went and found the people of the Fire bowed down, weeping." He said: "So he returned to Him and informed his Lord. He said: 'Go to him and bring him to me, for he is in such and such a place.'" He said: "So he went and brought him. He said: 'O My servant, how did you find your abode and your resting place?' He said: 'O my Lord, the worst abode and the worst resting place.' He said: 'Return My servant.' He said: 'I did not hope that You would return me to it after You had taken me out of it.' Allah said to His angels: 'Leave My servant.'" Al-Bayhaqī, may Allah have mercy on him, said: "Thus it has been narrated in this hadith." And we have narrated the hadith of Bishr b. al-Mufaḍḍal, from Abū Maslamah, from Abū Naḍrah, from Abū Saʿīd, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "As for the people of the Fire who are its true inhabitants, they will neither die in it nor live. But as for people whom the Fire struck because of their sins - or he said: because of their wrongdoings - it will cause them to die a death, until when they have become charcoal, permission is given for intercession. Then they are brought in groups, burnt, and cast upon the rivers of Paradise. Then it is said: 'O people of Paradise, pour water over them.' So they sprout like the seed that grows in the silt carried by a flood." A man said: "It is as if the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had been in the desert."
