Eating with Bread

Show the chain

“Allah’s Messenger ﷺ came to see me with 'Ali. We had some suspended clusters of grapes, so Allah’s Messenger ﷺ started to eat, and 'Ali was eating with him. Allah’s Messenger ﷺ therefore said to 'Ali: ‘Take it easy, O ‘Ali, for you are a convalescent!’ So 'Ali sat down while the Prophet ﷺ ate, and I offered them some chard and barley. The Prophet ﷺ said to 'Ali: ‘Eat some of this, for this is more appropriate for you'!”

  • Ibn Abī Ḥatim

machine translationMuḥammad b. Abī Yaḥyā is Muḥammad b. Fulayḥ, and this hadith is well known from the narration of Fulayḥ. I used to think that he was Muḥammad b. Abī Yaḥyā al-Aslamī, Abū Ibrāhīm b. Abī Yaḥyā, so I put it to Abū Zurʿah, but he did not recognise it as a hadith of Muḥammad b. Abī Yaḥyā. He kept expressing astonishment, and the matter was confusing to him, just as it was confusing to me, until now I have established that he is Fulayḥ, who is given the kunya Abū Yaḥyā.
