machine translationThe soundest report on this matter, the most firmly established and the most upright in its chain of transmission, is the ḥadīth of Mālik and others, from Ibn Shihāb.

  • Dāraquṭnī

machine translationHammām was alone in transmitting it from Muḥammad b. ʿAmr, from Abū Salamah, from Ibn ʿUmar, from ʿUmar, from the Prophet ﷺ. Others narrate it from Muḥammad b. ʿAmr, from Abū Salamah, from Ibn ʿUmar, from the Prophet ﷺ, and that is the correct version. Abū Salamah b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān has several hadiths on this subject: among them this one; and among them what al-Zuhrī narrates from Abū Salamah, from ʿĀʾishah, that the Prophet ﷺ said: "Every drink that intoxicates is forbidden." And among them what Muḥammad b. ʿAmr also narrates from Abū Salamah, from Abū Hurayrah, that the Prophet ﷺ forbade the gourd (dubbāʾ), the green jar (ḥantam) and the hollowed palm-trunk (naqīr), and said: "Every intoxicant is forbidden." All of them are preserved (maḥfūẓ) from Abū Salamah.
