Show the chain

the Messenger of Allah forbade selling fruits before they ripen. It was said: "O Messenger of Allah what does ripen mean?" he said: 'when they turn red." And the Messenger of Allah said: "What do you think if Allah withholds the fruits (causes it not to ripen), why would any one of you take his brother's wealth?"

What scholars said about it

In their own words, as Hadith Unlocked records them. They are shown, not summarised into a grade.

  • Abū Ḥatim al-Rāzī

machine translationThis is a mistake; it is only the words of Anas. Abū Zurʿah said: Thus al-Darāwardī and Mālik b. Anas narrate it as raised to the Prophet (marfūʿ), while the people narrate it as halted at the Companion (mawqūf), as the words of Anas.

    in سنن النسائي, p. 4538

machine translationThis is a mistake; it is only the words of Anas. Abū Zurʿah said: Thus al-Darāwardī and Mālik b. Anas narrate it as raised to the Prophet (marfūʿ), while the people narrate it as halted at the Companion (mawqūf), as the words of Anas.

  • Dāraquṭnī

machine translationMālik narrates it from Ḥumayd from Anas, and he attributed the whole hadith to the Prophet ﷺ. Al-Darāwardī narrated it, in the narration of Muḥammad b. ʿAbbād from him, from Ḥumayd from Anas, and he attributed the end of the hadith (to the Prophet ﷺ) as Mālik attributed it. Ibrāhīm b. Ḥamzah and Yaḥyā b. Sulaymān b. Nuḍlah differed from him and made the end of the hadith the words of Anas. Likewise it was narrated by Ismāʿīl b. Jaʿfar, Bishr b. al-Mufaḍḍal, Abū Khālid al-Aḥmar, Muʿtamir b. Sulaymān, ʿUbaydah b. Ḥumayd, Sufyān b. Ḥabīb, Yaḥyā b. Ayyūb, Marwān b. Muʿāwiyah and Yazīd b. Hārūn; they made the end of the hadith the statement of Anas, and that is the correct view.
