machine translationAl-Ḥasan al-Baṣrī narrates it, and there is disagreement about it from him. Qatādah narrated it from al-Ḥasan, from Ḥuḍayn b. al-Mundhir Abū Sāsān, from al-Muhājir; Saʿīd and Hishām narrated it thus. Ḥumayd al-Ṭawīl, Yūnus b. ʿUbayd, ʿAbdullāh b. al-Mukhtār, Ashʿath b. ʿAbd al-Malik, Jarīr b. Ḥāzim, Abū Sahl Kathīr b. Ziyād and al-Ḥasan b. Wāṣil, who is al-Ḥasan b. Dīnār, differed from him, and narrated it from al-Ḥasan from al-Muhājir, without mentioning anyone between them. ʿAbbād b. Maysarah narrated it from al-Ḥasan, who said: A man from Quraysh, whom he did not name, told me that he saw the Prophet ﷺ; he said: he greeted him with salām, and he did not return it until he had touched water. Abū al-Ashʿath narrated it from al-Ḥasan as a mursal report from the Prophet ﷺ. The hadith of Qatādah is the soundest of them.

machine translationOne is that it is defective (maʿlūl), and the other is that it is contradicted (muʿāraḍ). As for its being defective, Ibn Daqīq al-ʿĪd said in al-Imām: Saʿīd b. Abī ʿArūbah became confused (ikhtalaṭa) at the end of his life, so one must take into account who heard from him before the confusion. Ibn ʿAdī said: Aḥmad b. Ḥanbal said: Yazīd b. Zurayʿ heard from him early. He said: al-Nasāʾī narrated it from the hadith of Shuʿbah, from Qatādah, with it, and it does not contain "Indeed, nothing prevented me..." to the end. And Ḥammād b. Salamah narrated it from Ḥumayd and others, from al-Ḥasan, from al-Muhājir, as a broken chain (munqaṭiʿ). So it has three defects.
