What scholars said about it

In their own words, as Hadith Unlocked records them. They are shown, not summarised into a grade.

  • Aḥmad ibn Shuʿayb al-Nasāʾī

    in سنن النسائي, p. 2489

machine translationThe sound (ṣaḥīḥ) position is that it is a statement of Ibn ʿUmar himself (mawqūf).

    in سنن النسائي, p. 2489
  • Dāraquṭnī

machine translationHe said: Yūnus b. Yazīd narrated it from al-Zuhrī, from Sālim, from his father, from the Prophet ﷺ, and Yazīd b. Abī Ḥabīb followed him, narrating it from al-Zuhrī likewise. Nāfiʿ also narrated it, but he differed from Sālim, and there is disagreement about Nāfiʿ. Khālid b. al-Ḥārith and ʿAbd al-Razzāq narrated it from ʿAbdullāh b. ʿUmar, from Nāfiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar as his own statement. Ayyūb differed from Mūsā b. ʿUqbah, and al-Layth b. Saʿd and Ibn Jurayj narrated it from Nāfiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar, and they narrated it from Nāfiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar, from the Prophet ﷺ. He made an error in two places: in his statement "from Ibn Jurayj, from Nāfiʿ," for Ibn Jurayj only narrated it from Mūsā b. ʿUqbah; and in his statement "from the Prophet ﷺ," for it is only a report halting at Ibn ʿUmar (mawqūf).

    in سنن النسائي, p. 2489
  • Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr

  • Aḥmad b. Ḥanbal

machine translationIn the hadith of Yūnus from al-Zuhrī there are objectionable (munkar) reports, among them: from Sālim, from his father: "On what the sky waters, there is the tithe."
