أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ الْأَعْرَجُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الرَّقَاشِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا عَطَسَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَقُلِ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ وَيُقَالُ لَهُ يَرْحَمُكُمُ اللهُ وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُ يَرْحَمُكُمُ اللهُ فَلْيَقُلْ يَغْفِرُ اللهُ لَكُمْ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ وَهَذَا حَدِيثٌ مُنْكَرٌ وَلَا أَرَى جَعْفَرَ بْنَ سُلَيْمَانَ إِلَّا سَمِعَهُ مِنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ بَعْدَ الِاخْتِلَاطِ وَدَخَلَ عَطَاءُ بْنُ السَّائِبِ الْبَصْرَةَ مَرَّتَيْنِ فَمَنْ سَمِعَ مِنْهُ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ فَحَدِيثُهُ صَحِيحٌ وَمَنْ سَمِعَ مِنْهُ آخِرَ مَرَّةٍ فَفِي حَدِيثِهِ شَيْءٌ وَحَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ حَدِيثُهُ عَنْهُ صَحِيحٌ

✧ From the Prophet ﷺ: “When one of you sneezes, let him say: ‘Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds,’ and let it be said to him: ‘May Allah have mercy on you all.’ And when it is said to him: ‘May Allah have mercy on you all,’ let him say: ‘May Allah forgive you all.’” Abu ‘Abd al-Rahman said: “This is a rejected hadith. I do not think Ja‘far b. Sulayman heard it from ‘Ata’ b. al-Sa’ib except after he became confused. ‘Ata’ b. al-Sa’ib entered Basrah twice, so whoever heard from him the first time, his hadith is sound, but whoever heard from him the last time, there is something suspect in his hadith. And Hammad b. Zayd’s hadith from him is sound.”
