أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ شُعَيْبَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا اللَّيْثُ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ الْهَادِ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ سَعْدٍ عَنْ صَالِحِ بْنِ كَيْسَانَ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ

اسْتَأْذَنَ عُمَرُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَعِنْدَهُ نِسَاءٌ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ يُكَلِّمْنَهُ وَيَسْتَكْثِرْنَهُ عَالِيَةٌ أَصْوَاتُهُنَّ فَلَمَّا اسْتَأْذَنَ عُمَرُ تَبَادَرْنَ الْحِجَابَ فَدَخَلَ عُمَرُ وَرَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَضْحَكُ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ أَضْحَكَ اللهُ سِنَّكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «عَجِبْتُ مِنْ هَؤُلَاءِ اللَّاتِي كُنَّ عِنْدِي فَلَمَّا سَمِعْنَ صَوْتَكَ تَبَادَرْنَ الْحِجَابَ» قَالَ عُمَرُ وَأَنْتَ كُنْتَ أَحَقَّ أَنْ يَهَبْنَ ثُمَّ قَالَ عُمَرُ أَيْ عَدُوَّاتِ أَنْفُسِهِنَّ أَتَهَبْنَنِي وَلَمْ تَهَبْنَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ؟ قُلْنَ نَعَمْ أَنْتَ أَغْلَظُ وَأَفَظُّ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ مَا لَقِيَكَ الشَّيْطَانُ قَطُّ سَالِكًا فَجًّا إِلَّا سَلَكَ فَجًّا غَيْرَ فَجِّكَ»

✧ Umar sought permission to enter upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while some women of Quraysh were with him, talking to him and asking him for more, their voices loud. When Umar sought permission, they hurried to the screen. Umar entered while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was laughing. Umar said: “May Allah make you laugh, O Messenger of Allah.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “I am amazed at these women who were with me; when they heard your voice, they hurried to the screen.” Umar said: “You are more deserving that they should fear you.” Then Umar said: “O enemies of yourselves, do you fear me and not fear the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?” They said: “Yes, you are harsher and rougher than the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “By Him in whose hand is my soul, Satan never meets you traveling on a path except that he travels on a path other than your path.”
