✧ Interpretation of the Word of Allah, Mighty and Exalted is He: And We have certainly given you seven of the oft-repeated [verses]

أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ خُبَيْبِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ حَفْصَ بْنَ عَاصِمٍ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُعَلَّى
أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ مَرَّ بِهِ وَهُوَ يُصَلِّي فَدَعَاهُ قَالَ فَصَلَّيْتُ ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُهُ فَقَالَ «مَا مَنَعَكَ أَنْ تُجِيبَنِي؟» قُلْتُ كُنْتُ أُصَلِّي قَالَ أَلَمْ يَقُلِ اللهُ {يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اسْتَجِيبُوا لِلَّهِ وَلِلرَّسُولِ إِذَا دَعَاكُمْ لَمَّا يُحْيِيكُمْ} [الأنفال 24] أَلَا أُعَلِّمُكَ أَعْظَمَ سُورَةٍ قَبْلَ أَنْ أَخْرُجَ مِنَ الْمَسْجِدِ؟ قُلْتُ بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَلَمَّا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَخْرُجَ مِنَ الْمَسْجِدِ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَوْلُكَ قَالَ «الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ هِيَ السَّبْعُ الْمَثَانِي الَّذِي أُوتِيتُ وَالْقُرْآنُ الْعَظِيمُ»

✧ The Prophet ﷺ passed by him while he was praying, and called him. He said, "I prayed, then came to him." He said, "What prevented you from answering me?" I said, "I was praying." He said, "Did Allah not say: 'O you who believe, respond to Allah and the Messenger when he calls you to that which gives you life' [al-Anfal 24]? Shall I not teach you the greatest surah before I leave the mosque?" I said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." When he wanted to leave the mosque, I said, "O Messenger of Allah, your statement?" He said, "Al-ḥamdu lillāhi rabbi al-ʿālamīn — it is the seven oft-repeated verses that I was given and the great Quran."
