أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ يَزِيدَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزُ بْنُ أَسَدٍ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ وَهُوَ ثِقَةٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنِ الْأَشْعَثِ بْنِ سُلَيْمٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَمَّتِي تُحَدِّثُ عَنْ عَمِّهَا أَنَّهُ كَانَ بِالْمَدِينَةِ يَمْشِي فَإِذَا رَجُلٌ قَالَ

«ارْفَعْ إِزَارَكَ فَإِنَّهُ أَبْقَى وَأَتْقَى» فَنَظَرْتُ فَإِذَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّمَا هِيَ بُرْدَةٌ مَلْحَاءُ قَالَ «أَمَا لَكَ فِيَّ أُسْوَةٌ» فَنَظَرْتُ فَإِذَا إِزَارُهُ عَلَى نِصْفِ السَّاقِ 9604 أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَلَامٍ الطَّرَسُوسِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو النَّضْرِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ عَنْ أَشْعَثَ قَالَ حَدَّثَتْنِي عَمَّتِي عَنْ عَمِّ أَبِي عُبَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ قَالَ قَدِمْتُ الْمَدِينَةَ وَأَنَا رَجُلٌ شَابٌّ أَعْرَابِيٌّ وَقَدْ أَرْخَيْتُ إِزَارِي فَلَحِقَنِي رَجُلٌ مِنْ خَلْفِي فَذَكَرَ نَحْوَهُ

✧ "Raise your lower garment, for it is more enduring and more pious." I looked and it was the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so I said: "O Messenger of Allah, it is only a striped cloak." He said: "Do you not have an example in me?" I looked and his lower garment was to the middle of his shin." [And in another narration:] 'Abd al-Rahman b. Muhammad b. Salam al-Tarasusi informed us, saying: Abu al-Nadr narrated to us, saying: Shayban narrated to us from Ash'ath, who said: My paternal aunt narrated to me from the paternal uncle of Abu 'Ubayd b. Khalid, who said: I came to Madinah as a young Bedouin man, and I had let my lower garment hang loose. A man caught up with me from behind, and he mentioned something similar.
