أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنِ الْأَشْعَثِ بْنِ سُلَيْمٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَمَّتِي تُحَدِّثُ عَنْ عَمِّي

أَنَّهُ كَانَ بِالْمَدِينَةِ فَإِذَا هُوَ يَقُولُ «ارْفَعْ ثَوْبَكَ فَإِنَّهُ أَتْقَى وَأَبْقَى» فَنَظَرْتُ فَإِذَا هُوَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ إِنَّمَا هِيَ بُرْدَةٌ مَلْحَاءُ فَقَالَ «أَمَا لَكَ فِيَّ أُسْوَةٌ» فَنَظَرْتُ فَإِذَا إِزَارُهُ إِلَى نِصْفِ السَّاقِ

Translation

✧ That he was in Madinah when he said: "Raise your garment, for it is more pious and more enduring." I looked and it was the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so I said: "It is only a striped cloak." He said: "Do you not have an example in me?" I looked and his lower garment was to the middle of his shin.
