أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ شُعَيْبٍ عَنِ اللَّيْثِ عَنِ ابْنِ الْهَادِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ رَأَى حُلَّةً سِيَرَاءَ لِعُطَارِدِ بْنِ حَاجِبٍ التَّمِيمِيِّ تُبَاعُ فَقَالَ
يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ابْتَعْ هَذِهِ الْحُلَّةَ فَتَلْبَسَهَا يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ وَإِنْ جَاءَ الْوَفْدُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّمَا يَلْبَسُ هَذِهِ مَنْ لَا خَلَاقَ لَهُ فِي الْآخِرَةِ» فَأُتِيَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مِنْهَا بِحُلَلٍ فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَى عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ مِنْهَا بِحُلَّةٍ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ كَيْفَ أَلْبَسُهَا وَقَدْ قُلْتَ فِيهَا مَا قُلْتَ؟ قَالَ «لَمْ أَكْسُكَهَا لِتَلْبَسَهَا وَلَكِنْ تَبِيعُهَا أَوْ تَكْسُوهَا» فَأَرْسَلَ بِهَا عُمَرُ إِلَى أَخٍ لَهُ مِنْ أَهْلِ مَكَّةَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُسْلِمَ

✧ "O Messenger of Allah, buy this garment and wear it on Friday and when the delegations come." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Only one who has no share in the Hereafter wears this." Later, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was brought some garments of that kind, and he sent one of them to Umar b. al-Khattab. Umar said, "How can I wear it when you said about it what you said?" He said, "I did not clothe you with it so that you would wear it, but so that you could sell it or clothe someone with it." So Umar sent it to a brother of his from the people of Makkah before he embraced Islam.
